Sarasota Ford allows you to drive your new or pre-owned car off the lot, or we can accommodate transporting it to a different state for your convenience. Below are some frequently asked questions and their corresponding answers for when you are looking to buy a Ford outside of your home state!
No, you will register your vehicle in your home state.
Sarasota Ford will not collect a sales tax if you do not live in Florida. When you license and title your vehicle in your state of residence, you will be subject to sales tax and required state fees.
To meet the requirements for the Department of Revenue and Department of Licensing, you will have to provide a government issued photo ID, one additional document that shows your physical address, and a Buyers Affidavit.
Yes. The factory warranty is valid no matter where you are in the U.S.
You will be assigned a sales person for the sale of your vehicle. You will work individually with this sales person to decide which of our competitive financing options is best for you. If you decide to pay in cash, we only accept cashiers checks. Once funds are received, we will release the ownership documents to you!
Sarasota Ford is partnered with a number of shippers who specialize in auto transport. You can find the full list here (NEEDS LINK). We will coordinate with you the entire process of shipping through email, phone and mail (for signed documents). The department of Revenue requires an affidavit to validate your shipment and residence in a state other than Florida.
Sarasota Ford issues a day trip permit so you can legally drive the vehicle on Florida roads. You should also contact the registration department in your own state to receive a temporary registration that will allow you to drive through other states and Canada. This should only require a copy of the Purchase order and the Title of your vehicle to the Department of Licensing.
If the vehicle is going to stay in Florida more than 45 days, it must be registered in Florida. If you are due for reassignment within that timeframe, just show us a copy of your orders and we can further advise you on registration.
Florida has an allowable documentation fee included in your final transaction. You shouldn’t have to pay any other fees but those legally required by your state of residence.
